Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
At the Adolescent & Family Counseling Center, LLC, in 2018 we will commemorate the 38th anniversary of our founding in February of 1980.
We are proud of our nearly 4 decades of "Helping You Solve Life's Problems".
What is your primary product or service?
The A&FCC provides out-patients mental health and educational services to the public. Individual, couples, family, & group therapy are our primary services. Our "Relax ... and Live Better!" (sm) Stress Management workshop, and 'psycho-educational workshops' are also offered. Requests for Family Reunification Counseling and Supervised Visitations services have increased significantly in 2014.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
During my many years of providing social work services in recreational social service settings --- YMCA Camp Massasoit, Waltham Boys Club, and the JCCs of New England -- it was clear in 1980 that there was a strong need for quality counseling assistance to families and individuals. My work as a School Social Worker in the Meriden Public Schools surely reinforced that perspective. Now, in the 21st Century, our societal complexity and the stressors have only increased that need!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
3 Ls: "Longevity", "Licenses", and "Locations"!
We are proud to be one of those with the longest continuity for group private practices in the area. Our caring, quality, and experienced CT Licensed Clinicians are multi-disciplinary, including LCSWs, LMFTs, and LPCs. Initially located in our Cheshire office to serve central CT, we initiated our Danbury office in 1997 to serve clients in western CT and eastern New York State.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our primary office is 350 South Main Street/Route 10 in Cheshire, where we have expanded to 10 licensed clinicians. In Danbury, Wendy Sauer, LCSW, CASAC, is our Danbury Coordinator at 72 North Street/Suite 205. Her area of specialty is 'addictions" -- a broad range that includes: alcohol; drugs; gambling; internet; pornography addictions. John Maloney, Jr, LMFT, now provides a variety of services there to children, teenagers, families, and adults and Sharon Berger-Kutner, LCSW, RN, and Sarah R. Borlo, LCSW, provide the much-needed services to children, teenagers, their families, and area school systems.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Our Cheshire office is at 350 South Main Street, located on CT Route 10 [4 1/2 miles south of Route I-691]; [6 miles north of the Route 40 connector at Mount Carmel].
Danbury is at 72 North Street, Suite 205. Exiting Route 84 at Exit 6 and heading into town, the building is on the left.
What type of payments do you accept?
Most of our clients have medical insurance that may assist them with the cost of psychotherapy, educational/ psychological testing, or other services. Most major health insurance Preferred Provider Panels include most members of our professional staff on their behavioral health panels. We accept self-payment clients.
We also will make adjusted-fee arrangements, when needed. We are here to help folks, not to turn people away.
Which areas do you service?
Though there are no geographic restrictions, most of our clients live in adjacent towns or live and work within a 15 mile radius of the office where they are seen.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Herb Rosenfield, LCSW, is the Director and he has specialty areas of work with teens, ADHD, stress management, and does powerful work with survivors of childhhood sexual abuse. Linda Rosenfield, LCSW, serves us well as our Intake Coordinator and she provides much of our effective individual and couples counseling.
What are your hours of operation?
We currently have clinicians seeing clients in our Cheshire office Monday-Thursdays 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM; Fridays Noon - 6:00 PM; and Saturdays 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. With the expansion of our professional staff in our Danbury office, the weekday hours of service-provision are nearly parallel to those of Cheshire.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
"They treated me and my family members with great respect ... and they helped us to heal and to grow!"
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"We did then what we knew then;
When we know better, we do better."
